Johan Potma is a Dutch painter and illustrator who lives and works in Berlin, Germany. His work is made with acrylics and collage on old wooden surfaces like box lids, signs and cigar boxes.

The Umbilical Brothers

The Umbilical Brothers are an internationally comedy phenomenon. Named as two of Entertainment Weekly’s “100 Most Creative People In Entertainment”, David Collins and Shane Dundas have appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, after James Brown at Woodstock ’99, and before the Queen. Their unique fusion of physical and vocal comedy has taken them to stadiums supporting Robin Williams and brought comedy audiences into the Sydney Opera House.

Away from grown-up stuff, The Umbilical Brothers have built up a fanatical toddler, mother, and late-night-college-student fan base with internationally successful kids’ TV shows The Upside Down Show (co-created with Sesame Workshops) and Maisy  (performing all the voices and sound effects for this BAFTA-winning series) and more recently Disney’s The Book Of Once Upon A Time.

This is their first attempt at a book.

Although the son of two circus performers, Domingo prides himself on his amazing ability to be totally inactive for large periods of time. He enjoys watching classic human television on human contraptions, as well as eating and sleeping for days on end.

Thorg

He has worked in every 3 star Michelin restaurant in Lithuania, but only in the middle of the night, when no-one is around.
Peta

Peta

She’s just begun training to fulfill her lifelong dream of swimming to mars. She hasn’t got very far.

Why we love it:

The brilliant combination of The Umbilical Brothers and artist Johan Potma has produced a hugely entertaining picture book that will have 4+ monster lovers repeating the rhymes and perhaps making up a few of their own, or even start drawing a monster picture or two!

Kids may know The Umbilical Brothers from their television series The Upside-Down Show, Disney’s The Book of Once Upon A Time and The Sideshow and Maisy, but parents will also be familiar with the international comedy duo who have won an Emmy award, Logie award and performed live continuously around the world since they first appeared on the comedy scene.
